You've planned the perfect day, everything is organised to the letter. The dress is stunning, fantastic venue, gorgeous food, awesome band booked but there’s just one thing you can’t plan on... the weather.

You may have booked a Saturday in June but living in the UK you can’t guarantee that glorious Spring day. So many brides worry about what they can’t control... well I say embrace it!
If you’ve booked a predominantly outdoors wedding have some money set aside in case you need it. Here are some ways you can make a rainy day feel like you’d always planned it that way... you did a rain-dance especially!
1. Wellington Boots - Buy a boot full (no pun intended) or tell your guests to bring them along.

2. Don’t forget the brollies! You can hire fabulous ones from just £3.25 each.

3. Get creative with your photographer - some of the best wedding photographs have downpours in them!

4. Adapt your dress - ask your seamstress to add a hook so that you can lift it when walking through puddles - you’ll also be wanting to show off those cool wellies you bought!

5. Make sure you have a hairdryer, hair spray and some make up stowed away in case you get caught out.

6. If you're having an outdoors ceremony, talk to your registrar and check that they are happy to proceed outside. Perhaps hire some last minute shelter such as a gazebo but double check with the registrar before handing any money over. They may demand that you move the ceremony inside.

There are much worse things than a bit of rain - enjoy your day - it’ll be fabulous!!!
Now there is an opposite side of the spectrum - you could have a scorchingly hot day, most brides dream of. But don't forget that you could have some very uncomfortable guests, here are some tips...
1. Make homemade fans - when guests are sitting in the sweltering heat waiting for their meals they’ll appreciate an aid to keep them cool - they can double as place names or programmes too.

2. Move the speeches outside, if you’re able, your guests will thank you for it! Talk to your venue about logistics.

3. Ask the venue if they have fans available to keep guests cool. If not, invest in a couple of good quality quiet ones. If you don't want to keep them after, flog them!
4. Provide flip flops - a nice touch and will help tired feet dance until the early hours.

ReplyDeleteI had rain and although it wasn't an outdoors affair we bought enough brollies to allow the ushers to escort guests from the coach to the venue.
ReplyDeleteMy sister had the hottest day of the year in 2013 (an absolute scorcher in London) and she bought fans - the sandalwood type.
We both bought a job-lot of flip flops (Primark are less than a pound a pair and you can colour co-ordinate).
On your big day you'll have much more fun if your guests are happy!
